The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) is a federally recognized Indian tribe with approximately 1,200 tribal members.  Approximately 25% of our membership resides on Martha’s Vineyard and the overwhelming majority of the remaining 75% residesoff the Islandthroughout the United States and the world.  There is a significant amount of tribal members residing in Massachusetts, with an overwhelming amount of tribal members concentrated in the southeastern region of the State.  The ancestors of the Aquinnah Wampanoag have been located in and around the Southeastern Massachusetts region since time immemorial and have remained steadfast in their position as stewards of the lands and resources that have nurtured our survival.  The Tribe remains committed to the cultural, social and economic development of not only its tribal membership, including a mutually beneficial relationship with the neighboring communities, which they have had a longstanding relationship since first contact with the Pilgrims in 1620

The advancement of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head's (Aquinnah) gaming opportunity will be one of the greatest economic catalysts to impact southeastern Massachusetts in recent history. The project is anticipated to bring a significant number of job opportunities to the region ranging from those associated with development and construction of the facility to thosepositions required to ensure a fully functioning gaming operation. These additional job opportunities will be complimented by additional commerce and trade generated by the significant operational needs of the gaming operation when completed.
